Ideal student profile

  • You must hold a degree in the fields of Sciences or Biosciences, preferably in Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanosciences, Environmental Sciences, Biotechnology, Biomedicine or Biochemistry.
  • Knowledge of English equivalent to Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

If you cannot certify that your English is equivalent to Level B1 you will be invited to an interview to make sure you have sufficient knowledge of the language to be able to follow the classes.

Basic skills

  • Students should be able to integrate knowledge and face the complexity of making judgements from information which, being incomplete or limited, include reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgements.
  • Students should know how to communicate their conclusions, knowledge and final reasoning that they hold in front of specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously.
  • Possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity for originality in the development and/or application of ideas, often in a research context.
  • Student should possess an ability to learn that enables them to continue studying in a manner which is largely self-supervised or independent.
  • Students should know how to apply the knowledge acquired and the capacity to solve problems in new or little-known areas within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts realted to thier area of stud.

Specific skills

  • Define specialised concepts, principles, theories and facts in the different areas of Chemistry.
  • Correctly evaluate the risks and environmental and socio-economic impact associated to special chemical substances.
  • Design processes that imply the treatment or elimination of dangerous chemical products.
  • Operate with advanced instrumentation for chemical evaluation and structural determination.
  • Apply materials and biomolecules to innovative fields of chemical industry and research.
  • Innovate in chemical synthesis and analysis methods related with different areas of Chemistry.
  • Foster innovation and entrepreneurship in chemical industry and research.
  • Propose alternatives for the solving of complex chemical problems in different chemical specialities.
  • Analyse and use the data in autonomous fashion in complex laboratory experiments and relate them with the appropriate chemical, physical or biological theories, and including the use of primary bibliographic sources.

  • Identify information in the scientific literature using the appropriate channels and integrating said information to approach and contextualise a research issue.
  • Use scientific terminology in the English language to defend experimental results in the context of the chemistry profession.
