Official Master's Degree in Applied Philosophy

Access

Access to this master's degree is open to holders of an official bachelor's degree from a Spanish university or from another higher education institution within or outside the European Higher Education Area, provided this gives access to postgraduate studies in the country of issue.

Admission requirements

Admission requirements for the master’s degree are the following:

• University qualification (pre-EHEA or bachelor’s degree) preferably in Philosophy or in the area of the Arts and Humanities, and Social and Legal Sciences and in the area of Sciences (Physics, Mathematics or Engineering).
• Knowledge of English and French. Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the European Council. This can be accredited by providing certificates which correspond to the acquisition of level B1.

Students who do not come from the area of Philosophy, and depending on their prior studies and an analysis of the student’s academic file, which will be undertaken by the master’s degree committee, may need to study and pass bridging courses. Such bridging courses, up to 24 credits, will be chosen from among the offer which is detailed below.
Students with a background in the social sciences, law or science (physics, mathematics or engineering) should be able to show through their academic record that they have sufficient knowledge of the areas of practical philosophy (ethics, political philosophy and aesthetics) and of logic and philosophy of science. Otherwise they will need to take bridging courses as indicated by the Master's Committee.

Selection criteria

Should the number of applicants exceed the places on offer, places will be allocated in accordance with the following criteria of priority:

• Pre-EHEA graduates or graduates in Philosophy (10 %)
• Academic File (50 %)
• Motivation letter including curriculum (20 %)
• Knowledge of languages (20 %), English and / or French Level B2

The statement of interest is evaluated according to the following criteria, in order to ensure maximum objectivity: a concrete academic or profession-oriented project that justifies the choice of the Master's degree in Applied Philosophy, and the formal features of the statement of interest (5%).
Applicants' CVs are evaluated on the following: previous studies, courses, lectures or seminars in the field of philosophy, active participation in civil society institutions or associations, employment experience in areas related to this master’s degree, and publications or conference presentations. (15%).
B2 level in one of the two languages contributes 15% of the total score. This rises to 20% for knowledge of both languages.

Complementary training
