Basic skills

• Students must have and understand knowledge of an area of study built on the basis of general secondary education, and while it relies on some advanced textbooks it also includes some aspects coming from the forefront of its field of study.
• Students must be capable of applying their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional way and they should have building arguments and problem resolution skills within their area of study.
• Students must be capable of collecting and interpreting relevant data (usually within their area of study) in order to make statements that reflect social, scientific or ethical relevant issues.
• Students must be capable of communicating information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
• Students must develop the necessary learning skills to undertake further training with a high degree of autonomy.

Specific skills

• Recognise and contextualise texts referring to recent contemporary history.
• Recognise the basic foundation of economic analysis both from a microeconomic and macroeconomic perspective.
• Explain the structure and functioning of the European Union, its main institutions, political actors and mechanisms of integration.
• Describe the origin and development of the main current social, political and economic conflicts.
• Identify the fundamental analytical principles in international economics, globalisation of markets and processes of economic integration.
• Recognise the institutional and regulating design and the main economic policies implemented by current economies on different scales for the management of economic growth and cyclical oscillations.
• Identify the main actors, structure and functioning of political systems in the internal and international sphere from a theoretical or applied perspective.
• Describe the current role of different reports on past conflicts, differentiating between the concepts of history and memory.
• Link fundamental questions of current day economics to economic developments based on the main elements of contemporary economic history.
• Describe and analyse the functioning of public administration on different territorial scales.
• Use fundamental mathematical and statistical instruments of applied economic analysis.
• Differentiate between governmental decision-making systems in different social and political contexts from the middle of the twentieth century to the current day, with regard to state frameworks and sub- or supra-state frameworks.
• Differentiate and analyse the type of reactions established in the last century among different social, political and economic agents in regional, national and international contexts.
• Compare and contrast the main contemporary political theories.
• Analyse the sociodemographic, geoeconomic and environmental dynamics on different territorial scales.
• Apply theoretical trends and recent and classical analytical approaches of international relations to practical cases.
• Integrate historical, political and economic knowledge in the seach for global solutions to current day world problems.
