Basic skills
- Students must have and understand knowledge of an area of study built on the basis of general secondary education, and while it relies on some advanced textbooks it also includes some aspects coming from the forefront of its field of study.
- Students must be capable of applying their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional way and they should have building arguments and problem resolution skills within their area of study.
- Students must be capable of collecting and interpreting relevant data (usually within their area of study) in order to make statements that reflect social, scientific or ethical relevant issues.
- Students must be capable of communicating information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
- Students must develop the necessary learning skills to undertake further training with a high degree of autonomy.
Specific skills
- Master the Spanish language and use and apply the academic and professional self and specific terminology of literary and linguistic studies.
- Know and proper use of traditional and electronic own resources Spanish language and literature and be able to work with them academic work.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the history of Spanish and Latin American literature, with special attention to the evolution of genres, movements, trends, trends and styles, and relate them to their historical, artistic and ideological context.
- Master the techniques and methods of literary text analysis and critical analysis of works as a whole and its related disciplines: rhetoric and poetics.
- Use the techniques and methods of textual criticism, and its related disciplines.

- Describe the structure of the Spanish language, and distinguish the systematic and normative aspects.
- Identify grammar component belonging to linguistic phenomena basic analysis of Spanish language (phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, vocabulary, semantics and discourse).

- Demonstrate knowledge of the history and development of the Spanish language, and identify the main periods of evolution and fundamental linguistic characteristics of each.

- Commenting on literary texts, applying the acquired tools and taking into account the historical and sociocultural context.
- Relating the methods and results of the literary analysis to the literature as a system and the social sciences, and being capable of interpreting the interlocking of literary texts with other aspects of the human (individual and collective) activity.
- Analysing the formal, thematic, cultural and historical characteristics of the literary works and works of reflection on literature of different languages and countries.

- Demonstrating they know the basic theoretical foundations of the main methods and currents of literature and criticism.
