Basic skills

  • Possess and understand the theoretical, scientific, practical, technological and methodological basics for the exercise, development and ongoing improvement of podiatry.
  • Apply the knowledge acquired in a professional way to the practice of podiatry and possess the capacity and skills required to diagnose, prescribe, indicate, perform, elaborate and evaluate any type of podiatric, orthopodiatric, chiropodiatric, podiatric surgery, physical, pharmacologic or preventive treatment in the education, health and social environments.
  • Collect and interpret relevant data on podiatry in order to be able to issue judgements that include reflections regarding matters of social, scientific or ethical relevance; acting at all times on the basis of the accomplishment of the deontological obligations of the profession, current legislation, the criteria of good practice and equality among people.
  • Have the capacity to transmit one’s knowledge, information, ideas, problems and solutions to a specialised and non-specialised audience, fostering interrelations with multidisciplinary teams and efficient communication with the patient. All of this plus the knowledge of a third language.
  • Continue progressing through self-teaching as an instrument of development, innovation and responsibility through continuing training.

Specific skills

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the development, structure and functions of the human body.
  • Identify and describe medical and surgical pathological processes, their characteristics, semiology and methods of diagnosis.
  • Possess knowledge of the different systems of diagnosis, their characteristics and interpretation, and the manipulation of podiatric radio diagnosis and radio protection facilities.
  • Describe the morphology, structure and functions of the normal foot, its pathologic manifestations and methods of exploration and diagnosis.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of pharmacological therapeutics, physical, orthopodiatric, chiropodiatric and surgical therapeutics and prophylaxis in order to apply them to different pathologies.
  • Identity and analyse health problems in the feet in relation to different environmental, biodynamic and social aspects, and also learning in relation to the evaluation of scientifically proven facts and data analysis in general.
  • Issue a diagnosis and forecast and design an integral plan of intervention or the correct podiatric treatment.
  • Stay up to date with the latest knowledge, skills and attitudes in the podiatric environment.
  • Apply research methods and scientific preparation. Critically analyse scientific publications.
  • Act in compliance with the deontological obligations of the profession, current legislation and the criteria of good practice.
