The bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Chinese Studies: Language, Literature and Culture is a unique degree offered by the UAB which trains professionals to acquire a mastery of two of the most spoken languages in the world and their literatures. First, you will learn a whole new language, Chinese, which will be a fundamental tool to help you delve deeper into the Chinese literature and culture. Second, you will master your knowledge of Spanish, in both its language and literature, which will provide you with the level of expertise required by today’s society.

The degree will equip you with the skills needed to work in a variety of fields: the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language (particularly to Chinese-speakers), research, publishing, cultural management and language assessment in commercial and business environments, etc. Classes are offered by lecturers of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, a pioneering centre in Spain and Europe in the field of East Asian studies and research; and by lecturers in the Department of Spanish at the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, leaders in research into Spanish language and literature, and in literary theory and comparative literature. Moreover, you will be studying in a campus university surrounded by nature, where you will be able to interact with other students from many different academic areas.

This bachelor’s degree is for you if:

  • You are interested in delving deeper into advanced grammatical aspects of the Spanish language (grammar, syntax, morphology, phonetics, etc.) and applying them to the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.

Mobility programmes
The Faculty of Translation and Interpreting participated in Erasmus+ with exchange agreements in twenty European countries. The UAB-specific programme offers students exchange opportunities with universities in the USA, Canada, Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, Morocco, Brazil, and other countries. There is also the Sèneca-Sicue agreement with Spanish universities. Each year some 100 students leave on exchanges and many more arrive.
