The Minister of Defense meets with the Manuel Ballbé Chair to analyze the ethical and legal challenges of Artificial Intelligence
On October 28th, the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, met with representatives of the Manuel Ballbé Chair of Human Security and Global Law at the UAB to discuss the ethical and legal challenges of emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence in the field of defence. The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration between both institutions and promote a responsible, multidisciplinary debate on the use of these technologies.

Last Tuesday, October 28 , the Ministry of Defense headquarters hosted a particularly important working meeting. The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles , met with representatives of the Manuel Ballbé Chair in Human Security and Global Law , part of the Faculty of Law at the Autonomous University of Barcelona . Also present at the meeting were Dr. Roser Martínez Quirante , Director of the Chair, and Joaquín David Rodríguez Álvarez , its Secretary.
The dialogue focused on one of the most pressing issues today: the ethical and legal challenges associated with emerging technologies , with a special focus on the development and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of security and defense.
During the meeting, the importance of addressing these technological advances with a robust framework that ensures their responsible use, aligned with democratic values and respect for human rights, was emphasized. Both parties agreed on the need to foster a multidisciplinary debate involving all relevant stakeholders.
As a result of the fruitful exchange of ideas, it was agreed to establish future mechanisms for dialogue and coordination between the Ministry and the Chair. Furthermore, the Manuel Ballbé Chair will be encouraged to participate more actively in national and international forums related to this subject, thus recognizing its valuable academic and expert contribution.
