The duo of Andreu Garcia and Horacio Lamela once again take the title of runner-up in the open category for the GAD

Last weekend the Argumentation and Debate Group of the UAB has attended this year's edition of the Regenta tournament in the Principality of Asturias. Our colleagues from Club Debate Asturias, together with the University of Uviéu have summoned us to the city of Mieres for one of the most competitive tournaments of the circuit.

The GAD has sent several teams and several judges, formed by both experienced and novice debaters. Being the first tournament of the semester in Spanish, many of our novices who started training with us during the first semester, use the Regenta to make their debut in the Spanish-speaking circuit and apply everything they have learned to the training we offer. The more experienced debaters, on the other hand, find the Regenta a tournament with a very high competitive level that is very enriching. There has also been a presence of GAD in the form of judges, who have been able to enjoy the competition from another perspective.

Additionally, Elena Núñez, board member and trainer of our institution, has been part of the adjudication team of the Tournament, deciding and writing the motions to be debated and working for academic rigor and to ensure a fair competition.

Finally, the team of Andreu Garcia and Horacio Lamela has made the GAD has presence in the final and therefore has been able to proclaim runner-up of the Tournament after a few ordinary rounds perennially to the 'top room' and very close brush with the winning team. Andreu Garcia, as an individual, has also been proclaimed second best speaker of the Tournament.

Having started the second semester with great results, the Argumentation and Debate Group is more energized than ever to take on this second half of the competitive season, as well as to continue with its training and dissemination tasks. The institution is also working tirelessly for the organization of the BP State Debate Tournament, which our University will host on April 19, 20 and 21.
