The specialization course "Mastering ECG: Practical Interpretation for Nurses" is a training proposal aimed at nurses who wish to acquire or strengthen their competencies in ECG analysis and interpretation in the clinical setting, from the perspective of nursing practice. The program combines theory based on scientific evidence with practical workshops focused on solving real clinical situations, with the goal of enabling the immediate transfer of knowledge to clinical practice. It also reinforces the nurse's role in continuous monitoring, early detection of abnormalities, and immediate decision-making in healthcare environments.
The course structure is organized into progressive units that first cover the physiological principles and the functioning of the cardiac conduction system, and then move on to the systematic reading of the ECG, identification of normal and pathological rhythms, arrhythmias, conduction disorders, coronary syndromes, and ECG interpretation in special situations. Practical workshops are conducted in smaller groups, using real records, simulations, and clinical scenarios that promote critical thinking and fast, safe decision-making.
This training is designed to adapt to different levels of experience, offering useful tools for both novice professionals and experienced nurses seeking to update their knowledge.
The course strengthens nurses' clinical autonomy in ECG interpretation, enhancing their ability for early detection of cardiac alterations and immediate decision-making in risk situations. It also promotes a proactive approach to managing complications, fosters more efficient communication within the multidisciplinary team, and directly contributes to improving the quality of care.

In the field of cardiology and hospital wards, the course allows nurses to take on a more active role in the follow-up of patients with cardiac conditions by interpreting serial recordings, identifying postoperative complications, and participating more effectively in joint decision-making with the medical team. In primary and community care settings, this training also strengthens nurses competencies in ECG interpretation as a key tool for the diagnosis and follow-up of the most prevalent chronic conditions. In addition, it contributes to optimizing referrals and enhancing the nurses role in the prevention and management of chronic diseases.
Furthermore, the specialization course opens opportunities to work in diagnostic testing areas, such as stress testing units, Holter monitoring, or prolonged monitoring consultations, where nurses can actively participate in the preparation, supervision, and initial assessment of recordings. At the same time, specialized ECG training encourages nurses to become clinical reference professionals within their teams, leading internal training processes, updating protocols, and implementing new cardiac monitoring technologies.
