UAB researchers will participate in this conference, which will include the presentation of the results of the scientific research conducted on the archaeological site of Montanisell Cave (Coll de Nargó, Alt Urgell), dating back 5,500 years, and of the researchers' most outstanding discovery: a woman around 35 to 45 years old buried with extraordinary funerary objects, who they have named "The Lady of the Mountains".

The conference, organised by the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia (MAC), will include the participation of Núria Armentano and Cristina Santos, researchers in Physical Anthropology at the UAB, who will speak of the first anthropological results and the palaeogenetic studies and future research possibilities. Also speaking will by researchers from the Géosciences Environnement Toulouse (GET), who conducted the stable isotope analysis of the archaeological site.

The initiative aims to raise awareness of the research conducted in neuroscience and mental health. The conferences will be given by experts collaborating with the UAB.

Through virtual reality glasses, one can learn about three protected and endangered plant species of the natural park of Cap de Creus: the herbaceous plant Sèseli del cap de Creus (Seseli farrenyi), endemic to this natural park, the spurge olive (Cneorum tricoccon) endemic to the Mediterranean basin, and blue bindweed (Convolvulus siculus), in a vulnerable situation in Catalonia.

This event is the final phase of a teaching innovation project coordinated by Sandra Saura Mas, lecturer of ecology at the Faculty of Biosciences and CREAF researcher. The project is funded by the Coordination of Training and Teaching Innovation of the Institute of Education Studies and the Training Unit of the UAB. This project has succeeded in creating three 3D models of endemic and endangered plants of the Mediterranean basin, in order to make them freely available to students to work on during subjects dealing with the relationship between humans and nature. This has been possible thanks to the collaboration with the OpenLabs of the UAB, specifically the Digital Lab.

The Virtual Biodiversity project makes it possible to find 3D models of threatened plant species free of charge on the internet. With the result of this project, more traditional formats such as 2D herbariums or collections of living organisms, normally exclusive and located in inaccessible places that sometimes imply the death of the collected plants, have been renewed. New supports and media have been created that are more attractive, closer and more effective for learning and totally respectful with the life of other living organisms.

On 11 and 12 April, the seminar "Disciplinary crossroads: between the history of science and environmental history" will take place in the iHC building (Institute of History of Science at the UAB), organised by the doctoral students Max Bautista (UCLouvain), Carolina Granado (iHC-UAB) and Héctor Isern (iHC-UAB). The seminar features both local and international researchers in environmental history and history of science to facilitate academic dialogue in cycles of talks with a focus on elucidating plausible relationships and intersections between disciplinary fields. Key points of discussion will include temporality, geographic scale, thematic concerns and methodological approaches, with a special emphasis on addressing environmental activism in contemporary ecosocial crises.

The CVC's Open Days are aimed directly to university students and the public in general as a way to share with other the activities conducted at the CVC and the work done in the research centre. The visit is aimed at showing what the computer vision centre is and what sectors it can benefit, as well as helping the public discover its main projects and lines of research, experience how research is conducted "live", and discover the academic and professional opportunities available at the centre (TFGs, work placements, master's degrees, PhD programmes, etc.).

The meeting will include a visit to the CVC's facilities, with different demonstrations of interactive technologies.

The Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Biosciences will celebrate the International Day of Light with a conference entitled "Managing Light Propagation with Scalable Nanophotonic Architectures", by Agustín Mihi, researcher at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC). 

Agustin Mihi is an expert in large area and low-cost crystalline and plasmonic photonic structures using unconventional nanofabrication techniques. His group investigates the design, fabrication and characterisation of photonic architectures that enhance the interaction between light and matter applied to emerging optoelectronic devices.
