ISOR-Sessions Cycle-25/11/2025
Cycle of Debate Sessions at Ras
Dear colleagues,
The ISOR Research Group (Research in the Sociology of Religions) is organizing an open series of outdoor discussion sessions dedicated to authors and concepts that many of us use in our research (Foucault, Gramsci, Bourdieu, among others).
This is a multidisciplinary space designed for doctoral students and researchers in sociology, political science, international relations, and related disciplines, recognizing that our work rarely fits neatly into a single label. We believe that dialogue between perspectives will greatly enrich the theoretical and methodological discussion of each session.
The first series of seven sessions will be dedicated to Michel Foucault and, specifically, to his lectures at the Collège de France, The Punitive Society. We will not read the entire volume, but rather a selection of lectures that will allow us to delve deeper into the core concepts of the work.
- Date: November 25
- Time: 10:00 – 12:00
- Location: MRA Meeting Room (Research Module A, opposite the Humanities Library)
- Multilingual session (to facilitate everyone's participation)
Access to the materials—the provisional program for the seven planned sessions, chapters in English, and the event poster—is available at the following Google Drive link.
In this first session, we will cover six of the thirteen lectures in the course, specifically those from:
- January 3, 1973 (Introduction and Classification of Societies)
- January 10, 1973 (Structure of Universal Surveillance)
- January 17 (Optional – On the Emergence of the Criminal as a Social Enemy)
- January 24 (Establishment of Punishment and the Penitentiary System)
- February 7 (The Penitentiary System as a Contemporary Dimension of Social Control)
- March 14 (Dissipation, Surveillance, and the Genesis of Disciplinary Society)
- March 21 (Institutions of Confinement)
The meeting is open to the entire university community: students, faculty, researchers, and anyone interested.
Thank you very much, and we look forward to seeing you there!
