CCV of the Head of Department

Cristina Pulido is an Associate Professor in the Department of Journalism and Communication Studies at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.Throughout her career, she has worked with various national and international research groups and projects, driven by the desire to contribute to the social impact of research and to foster improvements in society.

Her main lines of research focus on media literacy, the social impact of quality journalism, the prevention of digital violence in both childhood and adulthood, gender equality, and the analysis of social impact on social media.

She has played a significant role in six National R&D Plan projects (currently leading one of them), three research projects funded by the European Framework Programmes FP7 and Horizon 2020, and five additional European projects related to the fields of communication and education. She is also a member of international networks such as the UNESCO MILID Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue University Network, the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), and the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA). Her research stay in the Department of Information Studies at UCLA   provided her with first-hand experience of research advancements in new media and their social uses.

She has an extensive record of interdisciplinary research collaboration, with more than 60 publications—most of them indexed in JCR–Web of Science and Scopus and cited by authors from around the world.

She is currently a member of the SGR Gabinet de Comunicació i Educació research group; previously, she served as Coordinator of the PhD Programme in Communication and Journalism, Secretary of the Department and, since 1 February 2025, as its Director, always committed to service and to working with others.
