Thal-IA. Golden Age Theatre Heritage: Artificial Intelligence and Spectral Imaging

The Thal-IA project aims to rethink the traditional understanding of the creation of dramatic texts in Spanish Golden Age theatre and to propose a new model based on textual evidence. It is grounded in the hypothesis, so far little explored, that playwrights may have collaborated with other agents within the theatrical system in the process of writing these texts.

To address this question, the project builds a reliable corpus of autograph manuscripts, which is subjected to philological analysis and study through spectral imaging. It also develops an automated handwriting recognition system based on artificial intelligence, with the aim of identifying new manuscripts and detecting the intervention of multiple hands within a single text.
