Digitisation of the Pianola Roll Collection at the National Library of Spain

The digitisation project of the pianola rolls at the National Library of Spain (BNE) has been led by a team of musicologists from the Department of Art and Musicology at the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona. The initiative has addressed diverse aspects such as sound heritage preservation, software engineering, and the restoration of the original media.

The collection comprises nearly 7,000 rolls, over 1,600 of which are available through the Hispanic Digital Library portal. From this platform, users can listen to the audio of the digitised works and view the image of the physical roll featured on its cover.
