International Conference: “TANC: The Apocalypse Is Not Coming”

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) will host the international transdisciplinary conference “TANC: The Apocalypse Is Not Coming” from 12 to 15 May 2026, bringing together diverse perspectives to rethink apocalyptic imaginaries and their implications within contemporary ecological, technological and geopolitical crises.

The event will gather researchers, artists, activists and professionals with the aim of fostering an open and inclusive space for dialogue, encouraging new collaborations and exploring pathways towards regenerative futures. The programme will combine academic sessions, workshops, panels, theatrical performances, audiovisual screenings and other experimental formats, integrating scholarly exchange with artistic practice and collaborative research.

The conference will feature keynote lectures by Marco Armiero and Malcom Ferdinand, leading scholars in political ecology and environmental studies.

The initiative is part of the “Viable Unknowns” project, funded by Creative Europe, which brings together social sciences, environmental sciences and participatory theatre methodologies. It involves researchers from the UAB—particularly those affiliated with ISOR-UAB and BCNUEJ at ICTA-UAB—the ODEEN project at the University of Groningen, and a range of international collaborators, with support from institutional bodies such as the UAB COREs.
