Intermedit Exhibition

This exhibition is organised in parallel with MAC-Empúries, the Archaeological Museum of Ibiza and Formentera, and the museum and oppidum of Ensérune (Occitania). It aims to highlight the value of Mediterranean trade in antiquity. It was not only an instrument for distributing products and goods, but also a cultural contact channel. It served to transmit ideas, knowledge, and beliefs.

The exhibition will be based on digital content and resources developed by the Intermedit project. This project has been funded by the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion. The goal is to create a space of convergence. The intention is to highlight the millennia-old connection between these three Mediterranean regions through their archaeological heritage. It also emphasises the interrelation between Phoenicians, Greeks, and native populations through exchange and trade.

The project has been driven by the aforementioned institutions and collaborates with the Digital Lab / UAB Upen Labs and the CORE of Cultural Heritage at UAB. This has made possible the development of a virtual exhibition application, including digital models generated through scanning iconic pieces from the three museums. The technological resources of the exhibition will disseminate the central theme of the project: cultural contacts in the ancient Mediterranean. All of this will be showcased through archaeological testimonies from these three sites: the Phoenician-Punic Ayboshim (Ibiza), the Greek port settlement of Emporion (Empúries), and the Celtic oppidum of Ensérune.
