El Centro

The website of the El Centro project, elcentrodoc.org, was officially presented on October 15, 2026, accompanied by a special radio program, within the framework of the opening of the exhibition “Altres maneres de narrar la ciutat”, which is held for the third consecutive year at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).

The program, led by Sofía De Haro and Franco Medina, Journalism students and participants from previous editions of El Centro, was attended by several people who have made the project possible, interviewed to publicize their vision of this interuniversity transmedia initiative. Ricardo Carniel, vice-dean of Economics, Services and UABmedia; Carles Llorens, director of the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising; Rosana Carvalho, coordinator of Cooperation of the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS), and Marta Narberhaus, professor of the subject of Audiovisual Languages and one of the responsibles of the El Centro project.

However, the prominence was assumed by a part of the students of this third edition, who shared their experience in the development of the project: Sofía Pérez and Sara Roldán, from the Oasis púrpura team; Adrià Badiola and Alexandra Estivill, from “¿Educación para todo el alumnado?”; Bernat Forgas and Adrià Manchobas, from “La voz del Trabajo”; and Joel Buguñà and Carla García, from “El B9” y” las desigualdades de Badalona”.

Before the end of the program, Iliana Ferrer, professor at the UAB and coordinator of El Centro in Barcelona, thanked the support of the people and institutions that have contributed to the development of the project and the transmedia platform. The initiative is also coordinated by Catherine Santa Maria Pérez Narváez, in Mexico City, and Alejandro Ángel-Torres, in Bogota,, creator of the project.

The digital platform shows the productions carried out during the 2025-2026 academic year by the students of the UAB, the University of Bogota Jorge Tadeo Lozano and the Panamericana University in Mexico City. They are non-fiction narratives based on a specific SDG within urban centers, which offer a particular vision of a global problem. Thus, stories move from the local to the global, and have as narrative thread the people and the social and environmental challenges they have to face. That is, they seek to make visible problems such as inequality, sustainability and inclusion. The platform also allows you to know the Challenge-Based Learning (ABR) methodology and access the project resources.

Simultaneously, the exhibition, located in the exhibition hall on the second floor of the Faculty, includes a selection of the contents presented on the website, made by Journalism students during the 2025-2026 academic year, in the subject of Audiovisual Languages. Visitors can enjoy audiovisual productions (reports, documentary short films and experimental videos), photographs and interactive content (maps, infographics and magazines) developed around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The exhibition also includes a selection of works from the participating universities of Bogota. and Mexico City. At the same time, sound productions (podcasts) are available on the UABmèdia platform, Podcast 2030.

The development of the transmedia platform has had the support of the Autonomous Solidarity Foundation (FAS) of the UAB, through the XLII Call of the Solidarity Fund, aimed at promoting university cooperation and education for global justice.
