UAB commemorates the International Day Against LGBTIQ-phobia with an exhibition marking 20 years of equal marriage
The exhibition, promoted by the Equality and Diversity Service, revisits the history of the LGBTIQ+ movement and highlights both the progress achieved and the challenges that remain.
To mark the International Day Against LGBTIQ-phobia, celebrated on 17 May, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is hosting an exhibition commemorating the twentieth anniversary of equal marriage, considered one of the most significant legislative milestones in Spain’s recent history. The initiative has been promoted by the Equality and Diversity Service in collaboration with the Faculty of Law and Cultura UAB.
Entitled “20 years after equal marriage: memory, activism and future challenges for the LGBTIQ+ community”, the exhibition was created by the Spanish Ministry of Equality and translated by the Department of Equality and Feminism. The exhibition offers a journey through the history of the LGBTIQ+ movement from the end of Francoism to the present day, highlighting the role of activism and collective action in achieving social and legislative change.
The opening event will take place on Wednesday, 14 May at 1:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Faculty of Law and will include representatives from UAB and the Government of Catalonia. The exhibition will be open from 6 to 29 May and is aimed at the entire university community.
