The Faculty hosts a conference on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of InfoK that brings together children, academics and journalists

The children's information reaches 25 years of history this Thursday, April 23, and the congress, co-organized with the CCMA, will take place in October, in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Communication Sciences.

The InfoK information program arrives on Thursday, April 23, to its 25th anniversary. Under the title "The challenge of informing children in the digital environment", the UAB will organize next year, together with the Catalan Corporation of Audiovisual Media, an academic congress to celebrate this event. The conference will take place at the Faculty of Communication Sciences on October 23 and will feature the participation, among other leading experts in the academic and professional fields, of Lewis James, editor of the newsround of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

InfoK is a unique news program aimed at children in Catalonia, known for its quality and its ability to report in language adapted to its audience not only on daily current affairs, but also on complex topics such as bullying, fake news, and armed conflicts. As part of the celebrations marking its 25th anniversary, the UAB and 3Cat are organizing this event to reflect on how news is presented to children, as well as on its educational dimension and the challenges faced by the media in a context where screens shape adolescent media consumption.

The conference program includes three roundtable discussions structured around three key areas of debate, featuring experts from the academic, educational, and journalistic fields. A highlight is the opening keynote lecture delivered by Lewis James, editor of the children’s news program Newsround at the BBC, a pioneering format in Europe since it first aired in 1972. The event concludes with a participatory debate in which children themselves have the opportunity to share their views.

The conference also includes the participation of professionals linked to InfoK, such as journalists Manel Alías, Laia Servera, and its current director, Núria Vilanova. On the academic side, researchers from across Spain specializing in children and media, education, communication, and psychology are taking part, including David Bueno from the University of Barcelona; Mónica Figueras from Pompeu Fabra University; Salvi Canadell, head of the Digital Culture Area at the Department of Education and Vocational Training of the Catalan Government; José Alberto García Avilés from Miguel Hernández University; Cristina Mercader and Santiago Giraldo from the Autonomous University of Barcelona; Sara Malo from the University of Girona; and Miguel Ángel Casado from the University of the Basque Country.

The conference, “25 Years of InfoK. The Challenge of Informing Children in the Digital Environment,” is curated by Professor Marta Narberhaus from the Department of Audiovisual Communication and Advertising, who is also presenting a collective book on the 25th anniversary of InfoK during the event.
