Psychoacoustics is the discipline that studies how the human auditory system perceives, processes, and interprets sounds. This course offers a thorough analysis of the perceptual mechanisms involved in hearing, providing a deep understanding of how the brain interprets acoustic features such as pitch, intensity, timbre, and sound localization.
We will explore fundamental concepts in psychoacoustics, such as pitch and loudness perception, masking phenomena, critical bands, and the temporal and spatial integration of sound. The course will also cover spectral analysis mechanisms and auditory localization through interaural time and intensity differences, as well as the use of monaural cues for spatial perception. All of this will be applied in fields such as audiology, acoustic engineering, and the development of hearing technologies.
This training is presented in response to a growing need for specialized education in the field of audiology. This demand has been expressed by various involved institutions, including healthcare centers, educational entities, and research organizations (ANA, National Association of Hearing Aid Specialists; CREDA, Educational Resource Center for Students with Hearing Disabilities; Department of Otolaryngology at Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol; Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Hospital de Sant Pau), which have identified the need to update and expand knowledge in technologies applied to hearing health. This program is designed to provide comprehensive and advanced training that addresses current challenges in the sector and contributes to improving audiological care.
-Synchronous classes in the afternoon, in-person labs on Friday afternoons and Saturdays.-
- Physical characteristics of sound and auditory perception
- Sound localization and separation
- Applications of psychoacoustics
Additionally, this training program offers an entry point into the field of audiology for individuals interested in hearing technologies who wish to continue their education in this discipline.
