The master’s degree in Interventional Cardiology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona offers the opportunity for theoretical and practical training in interventional cardiology over a two-year period.
The master's degree will take place at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital, affiliated with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the largest hospital complex in Catalonia. The Haemodynamics Unit at the Hospital Vall d'Hebron is a comprehensive percutaneous-approach unit, in which virtually all pathologies of daily cardiac care are addressed, including coronary pathology, structural heart disease and congenital heart disease. The unit is accredited by the Spanish Society of Cardiology to provide training in interventional cardiology.
The unit actively participates in numerous research studies, both its own projects and in collaboration with other national and international groups.
The objective of the master's degree is to achieve comprehensive theoretical and practical training in the field of coronary interventionism, fulfilling the requirements indicated jointly by the Haemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology (SHCI) and the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI), in order to obtain accreditation in coronary interventionism.
The master’s degree has a theoretical content, in which all aspects of knowledge that are involved in the subspecialty are addressed. The syllabus is based on the indications of EAPCI and takes the form of weekly clinical sessions given by the team of the Haemodynamics Unit in our centre.
This master's degree is fundamentally practical. The course’s foundational objective is the progressive acquisition of the practical skills required by the Spanish and European scientific societies in order to meet the criteria for accreditation. Training consists, on the one hand, of the commented daily review of cases and, on the other, of the progressive participation in the procedures, both diagnostic and therapeutic, supervised by a tutor, who is an associate doctor within the unit. All accreditation recommendations established by EAPCI and the SHCI of the Spanish Society of Cardiology will be followed.
Additionally, throughout the master's degree, a tutored research project will be carried out, which will culminate in the presentation of a master’s degree dissertation, the aim of which is to train the student in the tools of scientific research and the publication of knowledge.
