Production styles, types of professionals, and methods of disseminating film production are changing, as are production systems for film and television.
Production companies and producers (executives, delegates, associates, co-producers) are seeking new positions vis-à-vis television, markets, institutions, and new technologies.
Producers' working tools for analyzing projects, financing them, producing them, and selling them—all of which simultaneously enhance the growth of the film, its creators, and the companies behind it—are becoming increasingly sophisticated. There is already a theoretical framework for production, disciplines, and tools worthy of being grasped.
Product lines (author, general audience, saga, interactivity, series, video games) and territories are taking shape in practice, and their choice determines the future viability of production companies. Taxation is incorporated into financing. The West,
audiovisually speaking, continues to oscillate between saturation and innovation.
Smart content overcomes obstacles and endures.
The new Master's Degree in Continuing Education in Film Production and Distribution (MPDC) stems from a previous project first implemented at UPF (with the collaboration of IDEC, now the Business School of Management) in the 2011-12 academic year. The curriculum has undergone five years of fine-tuning at UVIC (2015-20) and is finally being presented in its new, mature and refined edition within the academic environment of the UAB. The Master's Degree aims to master the tools that enable the production of optimal films (from any discipline) and the development of producers toward viable "styles." The current industry professionals, who present real-life case studies, will enable new professionals to launch their own production line or join the organizational chart of an existing production or distribution company. We present a solid teaching program championed by more than fifty film industryprofessionals from Catalonia, Spain, and Europe, with some ties to Latin America, under the direction of Paco Poch, PhD in Audiovisual Communication with more than 40 years of experience in independent film production and distribution, and Ludovico Longhi, PhD and lecturer at the Department of Communication and Advertising at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
