The daily practice of mindfulness meditation and present-moment awareness in everyday life is supported by extensive evidence regarding its benefits for cultivating holistic health and well-being. The specialization course "Mindfulness for Stress, Health and Well-being: A Healthy Lifestyle Based on Mindful Awareness" is a psycho-educational program based on MBI, Mindfulness-Based Intervention, aimed at training participants in awareness, regulation, and stress management skills, within the framework of the biopsychosocial model, participatory medicine, and experiential learning.
The course places special emphasis on providing practical resources for stress regulation and reduction, as well as the cultivation of holistic health and well-being at the physical, psychological (emotional, cognitive, and behavioral), and social levels through the practice of mindful awareness. The program also presents evidence from biology, medicine, psychology, and neuroscience to support health and well-being through prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits based on mindfulness, such as meditation, sleep hygiene, nutrition, physical activity, stress management, meaningful relationships, mindset, or life purpose, among others.
Session 2 Wandering mind, stress, and focused attention. Learning to regulate mental wandering by establishing attention on a focal anchor: the default mode network (DMN) and the central executive network (CEN).
Session 3 The embodied mind and stress. Breaking stress loops through body awareness: interoception, affective tone, and allostatic stress.
Session 4 The stress response of caring and befriending. Cultivating the stress response of caring and befriending: the three flows of compassion and the three pillars of self-compassion.
Session 5 Microstressors and microhabits to overcome chronic stress. Becoming aware of microstressors and cultivating microhabits to overcome chronic stress: adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies.
Session 6 9 mindfulness-based lifestyle habits. Cultivating a lifestyle based on mindfulness: meditation, breathing, sleep, nutrition, physical activity, stress, emotions, mindset, and relationships.
Session 7 Mindful dialogue. Mindfulness in interpersonal relationships: deep listening, heartful speaking, and the 7 steps of mindful dialogue.
Session 8 From mindful awareness to a meaningful life. Mindful awareness makes us more resilient, but to avoid perpetuating the causes of stress, we need to focus on living a life aligned with our values and sense of purpose.
Session 9 Practice session. This session focuses on continuous experience of mindful awareness through a series of meditation practices: lying down, sitting, walking, moving, eating, and dialoguing.
Session 10 Scientific literature review and case study I. Sessions for updating, analysing, and discussing scientific literature on mindfulness, particularly MBSR, and case studies on various aspects and dimensions covered in previous sessions.
Session 11 Scientific literature review and case study II. Sessions for updating, analysing, and discussing scientific literature on mindfulness, particularly MBSR, and case studies on various aspects and dimensions covered in previous sessions.
In the case of health professionals or future professionals, they will be able to incorporate into their training a practical personal experience and resources to offer to their users and clients.
