Constitutionalism, populism and the judiciary: case studies
Description:
On 10 March, the Department of Public Law and Historical-Legal Sciences of the Faculty of Law is organising a day-long event entitled “Constitutionalism, Populism and the Judiciary: Case Studies”, in tribute to José Tudela, former professor of constitutional law at the University of Zaragoza, for his career in the defence of constitutionalism. The session will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the courtroom of the Faculty of Law.
The event will analyse the impact of populism on the judiciary from a comparative perspective, with particular attention to Latin American cases and the risks these phenomena may pose to the rule of law. Speakers will include Roberto Viciano, professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Valencia, who will speak on populism and the judiciary in Latin America; Miguel Revenga, professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Cádiz; and Enriqueta Expósito, professor of Constitutional Law at the UB, in the debate on the threats of populism to the judiciary; and Alfredo Ramírez, professor of Constitutional Law at the UAB.

Space for reflection: The European Union, today
Description:
On 11 March at 6:30 p.m. the Sant Raimon de Penyafort Foundation, in collaboration with the UAB, will be organising a new session under the series "The European Union, Today", in which it will focus on the main challenges and perspectives of the European project. The event will take place in the Aula 1 of the Barcelona Bar Association (Il·lustre Col·legi de l'Advocacia de Barcelona, ICAB).
The session will feature Marta Domènech, secretary of the Foundation and member of the ICAB governing board, who will open the event; Joan Lluís Pérez, professor of Constitutional Law and member of the Institute for European Studies at the UAB, who will introduce the session; Gregori Garzón, professor of Public International Law and International Relations at the UAB and former Jurisconsult to the European Parliament, who will deliver the introductory lecture; Esther Zapater, professor of Public International Law and International Relations and secretary general of the UAB; Maria Mut, professor of Public International Law at the UIC and the EU; and Santiago de Nadal, lawyer at the ICAB. “Iftar, Ramadan in the city” amb Víctor Albert Blanco in the Science Carriage's Expert Seat
Description:
Víctor Albert-Blanco is researcher at the Research into the Sociology of Religion (ISOR) group at the UAB and lecturer at the UOC.
In the Science Carriage's Expert Seat, the researcher will speak about iftar, the meal that breaks the daily fast during the month of Ramadan, and about the more public and communal dimension this ritual is taking on in European societies, mainly in cities.
The activity will take place on 12 March, departing from Plaça Catalunya at 9.28 am to the UAB.

Tourism and mobility in the EU's outermost regions
Description:
On 12 March the Study Group on Immigration and Ethnic Minorities (GEDIME) and the Research Centre for Migration (CER-Migracions) of the UAB organises a seminar entitled "¿Tiene sentido hoy la diferenciación entre turismo y otras formas de movilidades? Una visión desde la Ultraperiferia de la Unión Europea", on the relation between tourism and other means of mobility as seen from the outskirts of the UE. The event will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Sala de juntes of the UAB Faculty of Political Science and Sociology.
The session will feature a talk by Manuel Santana, professor in the Department of Sociology and member of ReinvenTUR, the Observatory of Linguistic Renewal, both units of the University of La Laguna in Santa Cruz de Tenerife; and also a speech by Inmaculada Díaz, professor in the Department of Sociology at the UAB and member of the Research Group on Tourism and Socio-Territorial Dynamics (TUDISTAR) and the Research Group on Water, Territory, Tourism and Sustainability of the Department of Geography at the UAB (GRATTS).

Humans and animals: a vital bond. Health, emotions and coexistence
Description:
The Seminaris a l’Abast series is a training space for dynamisation and participation, where current and interesting topics are discussed. The series includes 8 sessions lasting 2 hours each, independent of each other, and with a total duration of 16 hours. Registration can be made for the entire series or for individual sessions, and can be attended online or in person.
On 18 March, the seminar “Humans and animals: a vital bond. Health, emotions and coexistence” will take place. The relationship between people and animals will be reflected on from an interdisciplinary perspective. It will explore how this bond influences people's physical and emotional health and, specifically, the benefits of animal-assisted therapies. The event will feature the participation of Manel López Béjar, veterinarian and dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
