19th Congress of the Spanish Society of Biotechnology
Description:
The Faculty of Biosciences of the UAB will host the 19th Congress of the Spanish Society of Biotechnology (BIOTEC 2025) from 15 to 18 July, a forum for scientific debate in the field of Biotechnology.
Plenary lectures will be held during the programme. The thrid one, entitled “Optimización de fermentaciones vínicas a través de aproximaciones innovadoras: biodiversidad de levaduras, anàlisis multiómicos y diseño basado en modelos de flujos metabólicos”, will be given by Amparo Querol, scientific director of the Centre of Excellence IATA Severo Ochoa CSIC. The conference will take place on 17 July at 12:30 p.m. at the conference hall of the Faculty of Biosciences.

Presentation of the Xarxa Vives Medal of Honour to Professor Bosch
Description:
The Vives Network of Universities (Xarxa Vives d'Universitats) will present a Medal of Honour to biochemist and molecular biologist Fàtima Bosch, professor in the UAB Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and directora of the Centre for Animal Biotechnology and Gene Therapy (CBATEG). The award ceremony will take place on 17 July at 1:00 p.m. at the Aula Magna of the historic building of the University of Barcelona. The Medal of Honour will be presented to Professor Bosch for her professional career and commitment to science, culture and society. This year, a Medal of Honour will also be awarded to writer and linguist Albert Jané.

"Veus", the UAB's informative conference series
Description:
The Theatre Hall will host a new edition of “Veus”, a day of conferences with the aim of sharing transformative and inspiring knowledge generated at the University with a general audience. It can be attended without prior registration.
Six researchers will talk about different topics, such as bees and their diversity, waste in a more sustainable world, women made invisible by history, a digital future with guarantees, daily economic practices in precarious and unequal contexts, and the legacy of women during the Second Republic.
The event will be closed by Josep Cervelló, director of the Institute of Ancient Near Eastern Studies (IEPOA) and associate professor of Egyptology of the Department of Ancient and Medieval History of the UAB, who will give a lecture on hieroglyphs in Ancient Egypt.

The last one, entitled “Biotechnology in the times of AI”, will be given by Alfonso Valencia, lecturer of the Catalan Institute for Advanced Research and Studies (ICREA) and director of the Department of Life Sciences. The conference will take place on 18 July at 12:00 noon at the conference hall of the Faculty of Biosciences.

Challenging artistic hegemony: old and new forms of resistance in algorithmic capitalism
Description:
The Centre for Sociological Studies on Everyday Life and Work (QUIT) and the Institute for Labour Studies (IET) at the UAB are organising the 13th Midterm Conference of the European Sociological Association (ESA) Research Network Sociology of the Arts, which will take place on 8 and 9 September at the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology and the Faculty of Law. The theme of this year's conference is "Questioning artistic hegemony. Old and new forms of resistance in algorithmic capitalism".
The inauguration will take place on 8 September at 9:00 a.m., in the main lecture hall of the Faculty of Law, and will feature a speech by Laura Santamaria, Vice-Rector for Culture and Language Policy at the UAB. Angela McRobbie, professor at Goldsmiths University, will deliver the inaugural lecture, entitled "Fashion as Creative Economy: Making a Living in London, Berlin, and Milan".
