On 15 July the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS) will be holding the closing event of the second and final shift of the Campus Ítaca, an initiative which this year reaches its 22nd edition and has brought to the UAB campus 300 third-year students from 66 secondary schools of the Vallès Occidental region. The aim of the campus is to encourage these students to continue studying once they finish their compulsory education. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will take place simultaneously in the conference hall of the Rectorat building and in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Law. The students participating in the campus will present to their families the projects they have worked on during their stay at the university. The event will include the participation of UAB Rector Javier Lafuente, who will speak at the conference hall of the Rectorat building.

The Faculty of Biosciences of the UAB will host the 19th Congress of the Spanish Society of Biotechnology (BIOTEC 2025) from 15 to 18 July, a forum for scientific debate in the field of Biotechnology.

Plenary lectures will be held during the programme. The first, entitled “Stepping on the gas: innovating for circular carbon economy”, will be given by Lanzatech's director of innovation, Michael Koepcke, and will take place on 15 July at 7:00 p.m. in the conference hall of the Faculty of Biosciences.

The second, entitled “Gene therapy to treat highly prevalent metabolic diseases: A new horizon for human health”, will be given by Fàtima Bosch, director of the Centre for Animal Biotechnology and Gene Therapy at the UAB. The conference will take place on 16 July at 12:30 p.m. at the conference hall of the Faculty of Biosciences.

The Vives Network of Universities (Xarxa Vives d'Universitats) will present a Medal of Honour to biochemist and molecular biologist Fàtima Bosch, professor in the UAB Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and directora of the Centre for Animal Biotechnology and Gene Therapy (CBATEG). The award ceremony will take place on 17 July at 1:00 p.m. at the Aula Magna of the historic building of the University of Barcelona. The Medal of Honour will be presented to Professor Bosch for her professional career and commitment to science, culture and society. This year, a Medal of Honour will also be awarded to writer and linguist Albert Jané.

Description:

The Theatre Hall will host a new edition of “Veus”, a day of conferences with the aim of sharing transformative and inspiring knowledge generated at the University with a general audience. It can be attended without prior registration.

Six researchers will talk about different topics, such as bees and their diversity, waste in a more sustainable world, women made invisible by history, a digital future with guarantees, daily economic practices in precarious and unequal contexts, and the legacy of women during the Second Republic.

The event will be closed by Josep Cervelló, director of the Institute of Ancient Near Eastern Studies (IEPOA) and associate professor of Egyptology of the Department of Ancient and Medieval History of the UAB, who will give a lecture on hieroglyphs in Ancient Egypt.
