Globed: education policies for global development
The Master's Degree in Education Policies for Global Development (GLOBED) aims to set new standards as a master's degree in the field of globalisation, education and international development. By bringing together research centres from all around Europe from different backgrounds and networks, GLOBED will promote an interdisciplinary approach to the field of education and development, and will provide expertise from all regions of the world.

GLOBED is awarded by three European universities (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, University of Malta and University of Oslo). The GLOBED initiative has been led by three leading research centres in the field of education and development from these universities and the International Institute for Educational Planning-UNESCO, as well as two other European universities with recognised expertise in this area (University of Amsterdam and University of Sarajevo).

The project also includes a large number of associate partners (international organisations, [I]NGOs, aid and development agencies, universities and research centres) which collaborate with GLOBED in different ways.

Students will spend the first semester together in Barcelona (UAB) and will be able to choose electives in the second semester in Oslo (UiO) or Amsterdam (UvA), before coming together again for a Summer School at the University of Malta (UM).

During the second year, they will advance their professional development by doing internships in associate partners’ institutions (mainly in developing countries), and will carry out the necessary fieldwork to develop their research projects and write their master's degree theses.

Career options

GLOBED lecturers will develop teaching strategies with a strong focus on the competencies required to work professionally. Fieldwork and internship guidelines will be produced to maximise the students’ learning experience and help them to build networks for future career options.
