Ideal student profileThe Official Master’s Degree in Geoinformation is aimed at two different and complementary student profiles thereby enriching the work group and the study experience:
- Recent graduates in any discipline related to territory or information technologies who wish to acquire a professional specialization for the future.
- Professionals, working or unemployed, who have graduated no longer than six years previously, in any discipline related to territory or information technologies who wish to improve or reorient their career towards new professional avenues.
Given the experience of the last UAB master’s degree prior to this year’s official master’s degree in Geoinformation, the most common prior studies undertaken by students on the master’s degree are Geography, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Topography, Geology, Computer Sciences, Agricultural Engineering and Forest Engineering.
- Use acquired knowledge as a basis for originality in the application of ideas, often in a research context.
- Solve problems in new or little-known situations within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to the field of study.
- Integrate knowledge and use it to make judgements in complex situations, with incomplete information, while keeping in mind social and ethical responsibilities.
- Communicate and justify conclusions clearly and unambiguously to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
- Continue the learning process, to a large extent autonomously.
- Understand and use various different data models and standards for geospatial information (digital mapping, spatial data bases and metadata), and be able to recognize their respective components and capacities.
- Conceptualize, design, implement, exploit and manage geospatial information systems, integrating spatial and alphanumerical, relational and object-oriented data bases, in client-server distributed architectures, or those oriented to services.
- Conceive, design and elaborate cartographic documents and, in general, geovisualization of geospatial data products, and implement the corresponding production and publication processes using analogue and digital media.
- Develop and apply geospatial and alphanumeric information analysis methodologies to resolve urban or land management problems, generating useful information for the implementation of intelligent processes and for decision making.
- Apply the physical fundamentals of the observation of the Earth to the analysis and treatment of data from remote sensors.
- Understand and use navigation and positioning systems and techniques precisely and reliably with the various different assumptions of navigation and data collection in the field.
- Analyze user needs and the formal and interface requirements to define and design end- user geospatial applications in corporate environments or those open to the public.
- Apply programming methodologies and procedures, and those for implementation of geospatial applications for different types of platforms (desktop, web, mobile), using different programming paradigms and environments.
- Conceive, design and manage geospatial information application products or services.
- Conceive, design and manage the implementation of intelligent geospatial information applications for the management of cities and land (smart cities).
- Direct, organize and manage projects for geospatial information systems, services, products or applications, from strategic, technical, economic and human and material resources perspectives.
- Integrate geospatial information technologies, services and applications with the aim of providing an optimal solution to each application case.
- Use knowledge critically and understand and take on board the ethical responsibility, legislation and social implications of the use and diffusion of geospatial information and its derived products.
- Develop imaginative, creative and innovative ideas in projects for geospatial information systems, services, products or applications.
- Develop the ability to evaluate sex- and gender-based inequalities and design solutions
