Basic skills
- Students must have and understand knowledge of an area of study built on the basis of general secondary education, and while it relies on some advanced textbooks it also includes some aspects coming from the forefront of its field of study.
- Students can apply the knowledge to their own work or vocation in a professional manner and have the powers generally demonstrated by preparing and defending arguments and solving problems within their area of study.
- Students have the ability to gather and interpret relevant data (normally within their study area) to issue judgments that include reflection on important issues of social, scientific or ethical.
- Students must be capable of communicating information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
- Students must develop the necessary learning skills in order to undertake further training with a high degree of autonomy.
Specific skills
- Use written and spoken English for academic and professional purposes related to the study of linguistics, philosophy of language, and English culture and literature.
- Understand and produce written and spoken academic texts in English at an advanced level (C1).
- Understand and produce written and spoken academic texts in English at proficiency level (C2).
- Describe and analyse synchronically and comparatively the main phonetic, phonological, morphological, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic properties of English and their historical development.
- Identify and analyse the main trends, genres works and authors of English and comparative literature.
- Distinguish between and compare the different paradigms and methodologies applied to the study of English.
- Use current philological methodologies to interpret literary texts in English and their cultural and historical context.
- Apply concepts, resources and methodologies acquires during the study of English language in a global social, multilingual context of teaching and learning.
- Apply the methodology of analysis and critical concepts to analyse literature, culture and history of English-speaking countries.
- Critically evaluate linguistic, literary and cultural production in English.
- Demonstrate skills to be able to develop professionally in the areas of linguistic applications, teaching and literary and cultural management in English.
- Produce arguments applicable to the areas of literature, culture and language and evaluate their academic importance.
Transversal skills
- Demonstrate skills for independent and team working for the purpose of achieving the planned objectives.
- Use digital tools and specific documentary sources for finding and organising information.
- Apply the scientific ethical principles for handling information.
- Carry out effective written work and spoken presentations adapted to the appropriate register in different languages (except English).
