Basic skills

Upon completing this degree, students will be able to:

  • Understand, possess and demonstrate the set of knowledge required to educate children aged 6 to 12 years in accordance with the curricular areas established in compulsory education for the primary education period.
  • Apply the required knowledge for the design, planning and evaluation of teaching and learning processes, contemplating the development of citizen values such as multiculturalism, gender equality, equity, sustainability and respect for human rights.
  • Collect and interpret data relative to the primary education centres that makes it possible to reflect, make judgements and carry out actions in relation to any stage of education.
  • Assertively transmit to other professionals information, ideas and problems in relation to anything that could have positive repercussions for education and the improvement of the quality of life of pupils, and of benefit to relations with parents and other community services.
  • Develop learning and academic skills and strategies to acquire a sufficient level of autonomy in one’s studies and, at the same time, understand the importance of refreshing one’s training on a permanent basis.

Specific skills

  • Know the curricular areas of Primary Education, the interdisciplinary relation between them, the evaluation criteria and the body of didactic knowledge surrounding the respective procedures of teaching and learning.
  • Design, plan and evaluate teaching and learning processes, both individually and in collaboration with other teachers and professionals at the centre.
  • Promote critical reading and comment regarding the different scientific domains contained in the school curriculum.
  • Design and regulate learning spaces in contexts of diversity, promoting coexistence in the classroom and considering gender equality, equity and respect for human rights.
  • Stimulate and value pupils’ effort, constancy and personal discipline. Perform tutorial and guidance functions for pupils and their families.
  • Understand the organisation of primary schools and the diversity of actions involved in their operations. Know the models for improving quality that can be applied to centres of education.

Transversal skills

  • Manage information in relation to the professional environment for purposes of decision making and producing reports. Critically analyse the work done.
  • Work in and with teams in the same field or interdisciplinary fields.
  • Adopt an ethical attitude and act in accordance with the codes of practice of the profession.
  • Recognise and evaluate the social reality and the interrelation with implied factors in anticipation of any action.
  • Participate and show implication in the acts, meetings and events of the institution one belongs to.
  • Analyse and recognise socio-emotional behaviours and develop those that are required for good professional development.
  • Maintain a respectful attitude towards one’s natural, social and cultural environments in order to promote sustainable values and practices.
  • Incorporate information and communication technologies to learn, communicate and share in educational contexts.
