A total of 8,810 athletes from 12 university centres, 56.2% men and 43.8% women, took part in the Catalan University Championships 2023, coordinated this year by the University of Lleida. A total of 870 UAB students participated: 192 in team sports (96 men and 96 women), 117 in individual sports (21 women and 96 men) and 561 (303 women and 258 men) in the UNIRUN race.

On Monday 26 June, the closing ceremony of the 38th Catalan University Championships took place in the Rectorat building of the University of Lleida. At the closing ceremony, 62 awards were presented to the top male and female athletes in the different disciplines of the CCU, both individual and team. Excellent results in swimming, taekwondo, futsal, handball and volleyball

UAB obtained 58 medals, 26 gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze, slightly less than the 88 medals won last year, given that this year it was not possible to hold the Athletics Championships and, consequently, all the medals won last year in this sport could not be added to the final medal list.

In individual sports, UAB came first in swimming ahead of the rest of the universities, winning 20 medals. Next, the participation in taekwondo was outstanding, with 12 medals for taekwondo.

In terms of team sports, UAB came first in men's indoor football, men's handball and women's volleyball. And in second place were the UAB women's basketball and women's football teams.

Spanish University Championships

This year the Spanish University Championships were also held, in which 93 UAB students and athletes (61 men and 32 women) took part, winning 22 medals: six gold, eight silver and eight bronze.

In individual sports they won gold in swimming, karate, weightlifting and taekwondo. In team sports, the men's indoor football team came second, while the men's handball and women's volleyball teams came fourth.

Now only international competitions remain. During the months of July and August the World University Championships will be held, and the UAB will also participate in them with three students and athletes who will try to achieve their best marks.
