The appropriate use of these techniques requires professionals who can go beyond image interpretation alone. It is essential to understand the physical and pathophysiological principles underlying each modality, select the most appropriate examination and protocol, supervise image acquisition and post-processing, and ultimately integrate the findings into the clinical context of each patient.
The Masters Degree in Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Techniques addresses this need through comprehensive clinical, technological, and hands-on training in CCT and CMR. The program is designed for specialists in cardiology and radiology who wish to acquire the competencies required to work in advanced cardiovascular imaging units.
The training covers the entire imaging workflow. Students participate under expert supervision in protocol selection, image acquisition, post-processing, interpretation of findings, and preparation of the final report. The objective is to enable them to integrate CCT and CMR findings with clinical information and use them effectively to support clinical decision-making.
The program includes:
- Access to state-of-the-art technology, including dual-source and wide-coverage CT scanners, photon-counting CT systems, and 1.5T and 3T magnetic resonance imaging systems.
- Experience with equipment from different manufacturers, as well as acquisition and interpretation of advanced studies, including structural heart disease imaging, quantitative perfusion CMR, dynamic perfusion CCT, and dual-energy CCT, using advanced image post-processing software.
- Specialized training in pediatric cardiovascular imaging at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona.
- Introduction to 3D printing and artificial intelligence applications in cardiovascular imaging, with the participation of biomedical engineers and the masters faculty, as well as training in the physical principles of CT provided by the medical physicists of Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau.
- Opportunities to participate in cardiovascular imaging research projects and to develop the masters thesis in this field.
The curriculum combines pathophysiological and radiological foundations with clinical case discussions and continuous practical training. Thanks to the high volume of examinations performed and the programs strong practical orientation, including daily clinical sessions and supervised tutorials, students gain the skills required to independently acquire, interpret, and report CCT and CMR studies.
Throughout the program, students benefit from close supervision by a highly specialized faculty with recognized national and international expertise.
Classes may be taught in Catalan or Spanish, depending on the needs of the group.
Career opportunities
Upon completing the master's program, you will be prepared to join cardiovascular imaging units within cardiology or radiology departments and specialized clinical teams, with the potential to progressively take on coordination or leadership responsibilities. The training also provides a solid foundation for participating in research and technological innovation projects. To date, 100% of the program's graduates have secured professional positions in the field of advanced cardiovascular imaging.
Internships
Clinical practice is a key component of the master's program and is integrated into the teaching modules. You will participateunder supervisionin CMR and CTC examinations, work with real cases, analyze and post-process images, and draft the corresponding reports. Rotations in pediatric cardiovascular imaging and exposure to various technologies, manufacturers, and platforms will prepare you to work in diverse clinical environments.
Furthermore, as a UAB student, you will have access to the Employability Service and the Nexus application to view recruitment processes, employment contracts, and potential extracurricular internships.
