Registration is open for the 'From Science to the Market' programme, which promotes scientific entrepreneurship
The University of Barcelona (UB), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), the University of Girona (UdG), the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia (UCCV) and Rovira i Virgili University (URV) are launching the eighth edition of this programme. It is aimed at master's and doctoral students who are eager to develop their theses into a business venture and/or join an entrepreneurial team. This free, in-person training programme will begin in September. Registration is open until 31 July.
The From Science to Market programme, a joint initiative of seven universities, aims to promote scientific entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer among researchers. The programme is designed for doctoral students, predoctoral and postdoctoral researchers, and other research professionals who wish to explore the feasibility of commercialising their research.
Consisting of 100 hours of practical, specialised training, the programme covers key areas such as business models, protecting knowledge through intellectual property, validating technology, and creating start-ups or spin-offs. The programme also includes mentorship from innovation and entrepreneurship experts, as well as networking opportunities with other researchers, entrepreneurs and business sector representatives.
The programme has a hybrid format combining in-person and online sessions, allowing participants to adapt to their workloads and progress at their own pace. It will run from September to December 2026.
Previous editions of the programme have attracted over 170 participants and helped establish twelve new start-ups, including Gate2Brain, Mitiga Solutions and Koa Biotech.
From Science to Market is subsidised by the Catalan Government's Department of Business and Labour and co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus. The initiative aims to contribute to the consolidation of a knowledge-based innovation ecosystem by promoting the creation of projects with social and economic impact that are based on research generated at Catalan universities.
