The Department of Applied Economics (DEA) at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) invites applications for various tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level, starting in September 2026.

We welcome applications from candidates specializing in any field of applied economics with a strong research background, ideally at post-doctoral level or beyond.

The Department of Applied Economics offers a vibrant research environment within the Barcelona academic hub, favouring academic interaction with the many institutions in the area. A summary of recent research activities is also available here.

Successful candidates are expected to eventually teach in both undergraduate and graduate programs, supervise student work at all levels, develop an independent research agenda achieving international recognition, actively participate in the Department’s seminar series, and engage with the national and international research networks to which the Department belongs. Teaching could be either in Catalan, English or Spanish.

The Department’s main teaching areas include Principles of Economics, International Economics, Public Sector Economics, Econometrics, Economic Policy, Labour Economics, and the Spanish and Catalan economies. In light of teaching needs, particular consideration will be given to candidates with an interest in teaching the Spanish and/or Catalan economy courses.

The positions are offered as six-year ‘lector’ contracts. Promotion to full tenure requires obtaining accreditation (‘agregat’ from AQU or ‘titular’ from ANECA) and could take place after three years as ‘lector’. The current gross annual salary for a ‘lector’ is €38,318 (complemented with research and teaching recognition programmes). The annual effective teaching load is a maximum of 150 hours, spread across two semesters.

Applications should include:

1. A cover letter

2. Curriculum vitae

3. Job market paper

4. Two recommendation letters

Interviews will be conducted online during the European Job Market, December 15th-18th, 2025. Fly-outs will take place in January 2026.
