The MEAC is an academic master's degree taught entirely in Arabic. It includes six subjects (50 ECTS) and a master’s Thesis (10 ECTS). The five subjects reflect the main areas of knowledge within area studies, with specific emphasis, on the one hand, on contemporaneity (Modern Standard Arabic, two Arabic dialects, teaching Arabic as a foreign language, Arab history and societies of the 20th and 21st centuries, Arab post-modernities, etc.), and on the other hand, in social engagement (Arab revolts, diversity, cosmopolitanism and hybridization, queer and gender studies, margins, Arab feminism, human rights, cooperation and third sector, etc.).
Subject 1 (15 ECTS) focuses on Modern Arabic language and consists of five seminars: Modern Standard Arabic, Moroccan dialect (darija), Levantine dialect (shami), Arabic sociolinguistics and Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL).
Subject 2 (10 ECTS) deals with the artistic and cultural production of the contemporary Arab world and consists of four seminars: contemporary Arabic literature, cinema and performing arts, musical production, and plastic and visual arts.
Subject 3 (10 ECTS) is devoted to contemporary Arab history and societies and consists of four seminars: history of the contemporary Arab world, new Arab societies, political and administrative systems, and social and political movements.
Subject 4 (6 ECTS) is dedicated to thought, religion and spiritualities in the Arab world today, and is structured around two seminars: contemporary Arab thought, and Islam and Arab spiritualities.
Subject 5 (6 ECTS), media in the Arabic language, integrates two seminars: written press and audiovisual media.
Finally, subject 6 (3 ECTS), methodology for the preparation of an academic work, will be aimed at offering the knowledge and methodological tools necessary to prepare, in a rigorous manner, an academic paper, whether it is the Master's FinalProject (TFM) orany other course work.

All subjects are compulsory and there are no optional subjects.
