The Vice-rector of Students and Employability launched the proposal for this protocol in compliance with the Law 11/2014, of 10 October, whose Article 23 stipulates that Universities shall establishthe conditions that enable transgender people and intersex people to be treated and named on the basis of the gender with which they identify.
This document is the instrument whereby the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) provides the necessary procedures and requirements to change the name of transsexual, transgender and intersexual individuals of the UAB community. The scope of this protocol includes all students and all civil servants and staff employed at UAB: teaching and research staff (PDI) and administration and services staff (PAS) who may wish to initiate the procedure.
The protocol willfacilitate the use of an individual’s preferred name in all University-related and documents without legal implications, regardless of that they have not changed their sex in the Civil Registry, that they are minors, and without the need for a diagnosis of gender dysphoria or any kind of medical treatment
The change of name may be requested at any moment of the year, and the process shall be completed within a week from the submission of the request to the registry. Changes shall apply to e-mails, user names in the UAB Directory, Intranet and the various institutional applications, as well as in the Virtual Campus. The period for issuing a new UAB ID card will depend on deadlines agreed upon with the responsible body.

The protocol guarantees that all UAB staff who may have access to information or procedure-related data are under the confidentiality obligation.

The protocol is available at the Observatory for Equality’s website.
