Official Master's Degree in Analysis and Management of the Artistic Heritage

Introduction

The master's degree in Analysis and Management of Artistic Heritage offered by the Department of Art and Musicology has been designed to provide our students with specific advanced training in a variety of fields related to the study of heritage and artistic creation in general: research, criticism, conservation, management, dissemination and the art market. The objective of the master's degree is double and on the one hand equips students with the tools and skills needed to continue onto research in history and art, while on the other, it introduces them to the diversity of aspects related to the work of art historians (curators, gallery owners and directors, antique dealers, commissioners, critics, etc.), so that they can become familiar with the multiple professional sides of this field and their applications in a broad sector of the arts.

The master's degree has the valuable support of the National Art Gallery of Catalonia (MNAC). The module on Conservation and Management of Artistic Heritage will be taught by personnel from the Gallery at the MNAC premises (artwork store rooms, technical galleries, office and restoration areas, workshops, control centre, etc.). These classes will give students first-hand knowledge of the management of large collections from the museum: tasks related to the organisation, analysis and conservation of artworks, the organisation of temporary exhibits, educational programmes, communication campaigns, and many other aspects related to the daily activities of such a complex and important museum. www.mnac.cat

Apart from the quality and specificity of the programme we offer and the valuable support of the MNAC, the master's degree includes a very comprehensive work placement module in which several museums and other art and artistic heritage entities participate. In terms of research resources, the master's degree also makes available to students its splendid art collection, located at the UAB Humanities Library.
