The multidisciplinary training of professionals currently working in the biomedical research and health sector has spurred on the opportunity and need to create a degree in Biomedicine. The huge advances made in recent decades in knowledge and technologies applied to Biomedicine and the current complexity of this field call for the creation of a rigorous and specialised programme. Biomedicine additionally is related to aspects affecting society as a whole which range from personal health to political and cultural decisions. The application of basic science to Medicine is essential for the development of knowledge and new strategies for the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.
The degree in Biomedicine, created by the Faculties of Biosciences and Medicine at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, combines training in biology and medicine by focusing on the analysis of the biological bases of human pathologies. The purpose of this degree is to train professionals with the ability to integrate basic knowledge of molecular mechanisms and their biological functions with the skills needed to apply this knowledge to the main issues affecting human health and pathologies.
This degree equips its students to carry out biomedical research, biological diagnosis and prevention of illnesses, and to design new healthcare strategies, and in addition it trains them as technologists, teachers, communicators and knowledge creators in the field of biomedical sciences.
