NON-COMMUNITY STUDENT CARD
In order to register at the UAB, students must present both the original and a copy of their student card for processing by the centre. If his or her card is not available at the time of registration, the student has four months to present it, and the UAB will cancel a student’s registration in the event that he or she has not presented their card within this period. In this event, any amount paid in respect of registration will not be refundable.
In order to obtain a non-community student card, students must, before leaving, apply to the Spanish embassy in their own country for a type-D visa, which is initially valid for three months. Tourist visas are not valid when applying for this type of card.

MEDICAL INSURANCE
All foreign students coming to study at a Catalan university must have medical insurance cover.
If you are citizen of the European Economic Area and you are entitled to public healthcare (Social Security) in your own country, you must apply for The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). This card gives you the right to any medical treatment you need in Spain. Once you arrive in Barcelona, to obtain medical care you should go to your nearest public healthcare centre (Centre d'Atenció Primària ) and show your EHIC and your identity document (ID card or passport).
Students who are naturalised citizens of countries not belonging to the European Economic Area should seek information as to whether there is a reciprocal healthcare agreement between their own country’s healthcare authorities and Spain. If this is the case, students must complete the required procedure with the authorities in their own country in order to qualify for free public healthcare in Spain.
If your country has no healthcare agreement with the Spanish Social Security you should take out private insurance covering the whole of your stay at the university.
