| Contractual procedures at the UAB vary according to different cases:
1. If the teaching staff are in their own country:
. A) If the teaching staff are invited as guest lecturers: The department that has made the invitation should send an official letter of invitation, in accordance with information sheet nº18, containing information about the period and the reason for the stay. The lecturer can use this letter to request a visa from the Spanish Consulate in their country, which can then be used to apply for a RESIDENCY PERMIT WITH WORK PERMIT EXCEPTION. Once in Spain, the lecturer should contact the IWP for the remaining procedures.
. B) If the teaching staff are contracted lecturers: The IWP will send teaching staff the pre-contractual documentation described in information sheet nº18 so that they can go to the Spanish Consulate in their country to obtain a visa to apply for a RESIDENCY PERMIT WITH WORK PERMIT EXCEPTION, whose duration will depend on the information that appears in their pre-contract, although it is renewable. Once in Spain, they should contact the IWP for the remaining procedures.
. C) Under exceptional circumstances, the UAB can process WORK AND RESIDENCY PERMITS for post-doctoral researchers through the Large Companies Unit of the Ministry of Work and Immigration in Madrid. For further information please contact the INTERNATIONAL WELCOME POINT
2. If the teaching staff have been resident in Spain for a period of less than three years:

The lecturer can use this letter to request a visa from the Spanish Consulate in their country, which can then be used to apply for a RESIDENCY PERMIT WITH WORK PERMIT EXCEPTION.
