Maria dels Àngels Calvo voted "Woman of the Year" by Animal's Health readers

Maria dels Àngels Calvo, emeritus professor of the Department of Animal Health and Anatomy  and president of the Academy of Veterinary Science of Catalonia, was chosen by the readers of the veterinary magazine Animal’s Health to receive this year's “Woman of the Year” award.

The journal's award, which this year celebrates its second edition, aims to recognise female talent within the veterinary and animal health sector, and give visibility to women who serve as role models for future generations.

Maria de Àngels Calvo, president of the Academy of Veterinary Sciences of Catalonia, is one of the few women who has managed to position herself at the head of such an entity and is a strong promoter of one health in Spain. She was professor of Animal Health at the UAB and is currently Professor Emeritus. She is a full member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia, the Academy of Doctors of Spain, the Academy of Veterinary Medicine of Catalonia, and the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Catalonia. She was member of the Scientific Committee on Animal Nutrition (SCAN) of the European Union, as well as dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UAB. and member of the Advisory Council of the Catalan Public Health, among other important positions.

Throughout her career, Calvo has published more than 250 research papers and collaborated in several chapters of books on mycology and microbiology. She has supervised more than twenty PhD theses and has received 12 awards for her research and academic tasks.
