Microcredential in The Demographics of Catalonia: Sources, Trends and Applied Analysis

This course offers an introduction to population dynamics in Catalonia. Through four sessions filled with maps and charts, participants will take a dynamic journey through past, present, and future demographic trends. In this course, students will discover the main demographic concepts and indicators, the most relevant data sources, and the essential academic references. The course also enables students to learn how to identify and interpret demographic challenges. In short, it is a course designed to teach how to think about and communicate demography clearly and simply.

Thus, by the end of the course, students will have become familiar with the basic demographic trends in Catalonia, the origin of the data, and its limitations. In addition, they will gain knowledge about how population dynamics have evolved through the figures that illustrate them: total population, births, deaths, migratory movements, and their various manifestations across Catalan territory. Students will then learn to identify the demographic challenges in Catalonia, the extent to which these challenges are shared with most Western societies, and how demographic science can contribute to understanding them.
