On December 20th we celebrated in the Faculty of Sciences a commemorative event of the first 10 promotions of the degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (NiN) of the UAB. The event brought together more than 100 graduates of the degree, from the promotion that began in the 2010-2011 academic year until the 2019-2020 academic year.
We started with a networking activity entitled “Weaving networks between promotions and tastings”, where attendees could meet with former colleagues and share experiences, while enjoying a snack. This first moment favored the creation of new connections and allowed alumni to establish links between them, recalling the years of study at the UAB.
After the initial activity, in the Assembly Hall we held two round tables that were the central core of the event. The first, entitled “History and future of the degree”, was moderated by Carles Rubio, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology 11 and senior business developer at IREC. Dr. Jordi Bartrolí, dean of the faculty and promoter of the degree, Dr. Josep Ros, member of the drafting committee and first coordinator of the degree, Dr. Verònica Ahufinger, member of the drafting committee and professor of the first year, and Dr. Marta Martín, professor of the degree, participated in this table. The second table, entitled “Experiences and professional trajectories”, offered a look at the professional career of outstanding alumni such as Roger Ponce, project engineer at ICFO; Cristina Gonz'lez from mNACTEC/Minifilms; Nil Salomó, CEO and co-founder of Proppos; and Núria Basanta, PhD student at ICN2. This table was moderated by Dr. Mar Puyol, current coordinator of the degree.
The event was a unique opportunity to reflect on the origins of the degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the UAB, its evolution and its influence on the development of a discipline that continues to grow. The versatility of professionals trained in this field, capable of facing high complexity challenges and working in areas as diverse as research, industry or technology, was also highlighted. At the same time, a debate was generated on the future challenges of nanoscience and nanotechnology and the importance of staying in touch to continue creating opportunities.
At Alumni UAB, together with the faculties and schools of the faculty, we continue to promote the creation of networks among our alumni and maintain the link with the University. With events like this, we strengthen ties and offer spaces for collaboration and interaction that favor both the professional and personal development of our graduates.
We invite you to stay in touch with the Alumni Network of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the UAB through the LinkedIn group, to continue sharing knowledge and create new opportunities.
