The official opening of the academic year at the UAB took place on 29 September, in the Rectorat building. María Josefa Yzuel, emeritus professor in the Department of Physics, gave the opening lecture, on light-based science and technology.
The official opening of the 2015–2016 academic year at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona will take place at noon on 29 September, in the auditorium (Sala d'Actes) of the Rectorat building. All through the week of 14 to 19 September the International Welcome Days are taking place, a week of activities to welcome the Autònoma's international students. The aim is for these students to get to know the UAB campus, services and associations, and meet up with other international and local students.
The UAB maintains its position among the best 200 universities in the world, according to the just-published QS World Rankings. This university is ranked 190th, despite the changes that QS has made to its methodology.

All on-campus centres of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona will be closed from 3 to 21 August. Some services, however, will be available.

The Physical Activity Service (SAF) of the UAB is offering free enrolment and open access to its facilities to fresher students up to 30 November.
On 13 July students will be able to attend information sessions before enrolling in university. The enrolment period for first-year students admitted to the studies they chose as their first option will be open from 14 to 17 July.
