Professor Tom Evens visits the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona within the Erasmus+ programme
During the last week of April, the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) welcomed Professor Tom Evens, from Ghent University, within the Erasmus+ teaching and training programme. The visit combined teaching activities, academic exchange and research dialogue, within an intensive agenda aimed at strengthening international cooperation.
In the teaching component, Professor Evens delivered a lecture on Platform Economics & Policy to students from the Master’s Degree in Journalism and Innovation in Digital Content and the PhD Programme in Journalism and Communication. The session provided an analytical perspective on the economic and regulatory challenges of digital platforms, with a strong European and comparative focus.
In parallel, a working meeting was held with faculty members from different departments linked to the field of media structure and communication policies, in order to discuss ongoing research lines, academic publications and explore potential avenues for future collaboration.
The visit also included a tour of the UAB Media newsroom, a key environment for students’ practical training, connecting academic learning with professional practice.
On the final day, Professor Evens delivered two lectures to third-year Journalism students under the title ‘Policies for a Digital Radio Landscape’. The sessions, with more than 140 students in total, combined a lecture format with a discussion segment, fostering an exchange of perspectives on the present and future of digital radio and its regulatory implications.
This visit represented a valuable opportunity to share teaching experiences and to strengthen international academic cooperation in the fields of media policy and digital communication.
