It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joaquim Oltra

Joaquim Oltra i Pons, Full Professor in the Department of English and German Studies until 2001, died on 28 October 2023 in Pego, Valencia. Professor Oltra joined the Department of English and German Studies at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1970; he taught History, Institutions and Culture of the English-Speaking Countries.  He was a founding member (with Patricia Shaw and Javier Coy) of the Spanish Association of Anglo-American Studies (AEDEAN) in 1976, and was the Spanish representative for the European Association for American Studies (EAAS). During his many periods of research and teaching in the United States, he was a visiting professor at Northwestern University and Duke University. He was a regular contributor to Historia y Vida and other academic journals, producing articles on US institutions, politics and culture. Among his numerous publications, of particular relevance is his study América para los no americanos: Introducción al estudio de las instituciones políticas de los Estados Unidos (America for Non-Americans: An Introduction to the Study of the Political Institutions of the United States).
