Carme Font Paz awarded a Starting Grant
Carme Font, lecturer at the Department of English, has won one of the Starting Grants awarded this year to young and early-career researchers by the European Research Council (ERC)
With this grant, Carme Font will conduct the project WINK, “Women’s Invisible Ink: Trans-Genre Writing and the Gendering of Intellectual Value in Early Modernity”, in which she will locate, identify and examine the written works by women in early European modernity that have been left excluded from their intellectual contributions under a generic label of “women’s writing”. Font will work with a group of multidisciplinary researchers from the fields of philosophy and history from different linguistic backgrounds in charge of revising the social and cognitive processes that have established an androcentric vision of the notion of intellectual value in the history of ideas, proposing a trans-genre methodology of textual analysis that retrieves meaning and argumentative force in the individual authorial corpus.
Carme Font Paz holds a PhD in English Literature from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She is also Research Associate at the UCLA Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. She has received postdoctoral research grants from the UCLA Center for 17th- and 18th- Century Studies, and the Houghton Library, Harvard University.
Starting Grants are awarded according to scientific excellence criteria and each project receives a total of 1.5 M Euros. This year, the ERC has awarded a total amount of 603M Euros to 403 researchers from 48 different nationalities.
