Did you know that advances in the acquisition of biomolecular and computer science macrodata have been the two driving forces behind the biomedical and biotechnological revolution of this century? If you are intrigued by giving meaning to this avalanche of biomolecular data, the master's degree in Bioinformatics at the UAB is for you!

Bioinformatics represents an interdisciplinary, highly dynamic and professionally promising research field. This international master's degree, offered fully in English, has been awarded a seal of excellence by the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education.

The duration of the master's degree is one academic year. The first semester begins with 2 compulsory modules in which you will learn the basics in bioinformatics, followed by an optional specialisation module. You will be able to use a computer laboratory with your own personal computer which you will have access to during all lecturing hours. In the second semester you will be able to put into practice the skills you have acquired, and work on your final project. The external work placement module, supervised by one of the master's degree lecturers, can be done in any part of the world. All students enrolled are expected to be highly motivated and dedicate themselves fully to the programme.

Career options

The areas in which bioinformatics is required the most are genetics, preventive medicine, development of new drugs, clinical diagnosis, the food industry and biomedical research in general.

Bioinformatics are highly valued professionals for posts in biotechnology firms, start-up companies, pharmaceutical, chemical, and biocomputational laboratories, and in hospital research departments, in the food sector and, especially in the analysis of genetic data.
