For the 12th consecutive year, the UAB campus turned into a supportive and sportive festival thanks to all the people who participated!

Over one thousand people participated in this year's UAB Solidarity Race to raise money for the annual fundraiser of La Marató de TV3, which for the first time was dedicated to sexual and reproductive health. According to health professionals, sexual and reproductive health encompasses the set of pathologies affecting the population the most, in all aspects of life and throughout all stages of life.

The twelfth edition of the Solidarity Race started and finished at the Vila Universitària of the UAB campus, and as every year, participants were able to choose one of the four modalities, with circular routes: 500-meter run for people with reduced mobility, 11.6 km run, and 6 km run and walk. In the longer race, participants entered the town of Cerdanyola del Vallès and both the races and walk passed next to the ALBA Synchrotron Light facility.

The races began at 10:30 a.m. (reduced mobility), 11 a.m. (long race) and 11:20 a.m. (short race and walk). The winner in the male category of the 11.6 km run was Arnau Seguí Moll, in the female category, the winner was Elisa Melilli.

UAB Rector Javier Lafuente; Cerdanyola Mayor Carlos Cordón; and EMD Bellaterra President Josep Maria Riba marked the start of the difference races and gave a brief speech to thank the participants contributing to this fundraiser.

This year the Solidarity Race aimed to be more sustainable than ever and therefore decided to change a few key aspects: participants were encouraged to reuse their race T-shirts from previous editions, although obtaining a new T-shirt for this edition was also possible; there were no plastic water bottles for participants, but water was offered in recyclable cups, and only runners were given bibs. Additionally, participants were greeted at the finish line with a cup of hot chocolate.

Participants of this year's UAB Solidarity Race included federated runners, amateur athletes, families, staff, lecturers and university students who, with their participation, wanted to contribute to a charitable cause.

Some fifty people made up the volunteering team of the UAB Solidarity Race, helping out in all the logistics and organisation tasks needed to make this type of an event a success. Physiotherapy students from the UAB Faculty of Medicine were also there to offer participants a well-deserved massage after crossing the finish line.

In these 12 editions of the UAB Solidarity Race, all participants have contributed over the years, with their sporting and solidarity spirit, to help raise money for research in the different areas that La Marató de TV3 has chosen each year.
