This minor, along with the one in Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship, are the only ones which offer courses from several faculties and aim for a social transformation. It is now consolidated within the educational programmes of UAB and has become an example of how to incorporate the Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations, now that the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development is unfolding and universities consider how to deal with the challenges that arise.

The Minor in Gender Studiesis coordinated by the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts. It aims to provide basic, transversal and versatile knowledge from different fields of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts that include the gender perspective in their syllabus, with particular emphasis on the analysis and the impact of gender hierarchies and the social and cultural constructions upon which they are founded.

The contents of this minor include subjects from six faculties and several undergraduate courses of the UAB, namely: Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Philosophy, Geography, Journalism, Sociology, Law, Criminology, and East Asian Studies. There are 10 places available. The registration form is open here.

What is a minor?

A minor is university plan the purpose of which is to provide students with specific competences from a different field than their own, by offering courses from other degrees.

Any undergraduate student at UAB that has already passed 90 ECTS from their own degree is eligible to register. It does not involve any additional costs. The student shall then take 30 credits to choose from among the subjects offered in the minor, which will account as eligible credits towards obtaining their degree’s certificate.

No previous knowledge on the topics discussed in the minor is required, but admission shall be applied beforehand. The pre-enrolment period is open until July 15, 2016, and is available through online forms. On September 16, the faculty responsible for admission will announce the admitted students.
